Universal Grace – The Lennies on Christ

A few years ago, I did a Tarot reading about the consequences of Christ’s redemption for mankind. This morning, I felt I wanted to ask this same, huge question of the Lennies. Seeing these cards made me smile because Clover+Scythe can mean ‘lucky escape.’ Key+Mice+Clouds represent our failed attempts to create a secure position for ourselves with our minds. What Christ did for us is real and it is also universal. Heck, if even the Lennies bear witness…!!

It’s wonderful that all of creation bears witness to the miracle of Christ’s sacrifice… but how come the Church is so stingy with this miracle? How come there is such division among those who claim to belong to Christ? It’s been weighing me down lately because we should be celebrating like the Angels – every single day a feast in His honour… one big party and everyone is welcome! However, as I found out only yesterday, if you use the Tarot, you are indeed not welcome. I had listed the Tarot as one of my interests on a Christian networking site and had my account suspended because of it.

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:1

Feeling really down about it all, I had the delightful experience of feeling listened to last night. A new friend let me bend his ear about the condemnation I was feeling from the Christian community because of using the tools I do for spiritual guidance and healing. It was even more delightful because it became evident as we spoke that we shared many experiences and revelations and in spite of all the narrow-mindedness we have had to deal with, landed on the side of those who love Christ with all their hearts.

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. Romans 8:16

It was wonderful to speak to another Christian and not feel judged. And by Christian, I mean someone who truly believes in the universal power of Jesus Christ to redeem every single soul. Not only that he can do it but that he will because God so loved the world. He loved all of it – not just the Church goers and those who slap on the label ‘Christian’ but every single one of his children he loved so much that he sent his Son to redeem us. That is the God I know. That is the God who sends his Spirit to those who pray to be filled by it – the God of Miracles.

Jesus did not ask people to explain what they believed before he healed them; He did not refuse fellowship with anyone and all were welcome at his table. That is because he  was an embodiment of the Divine. An avatar truly could not be less interested in your theology, which is merely a feeble attempt to put the unknowable mystery into words.

But the Christians I have come across lately both online and in worship, have been full of judgment and exclusion, to the point of almost entirely lacking in grace. They invite you to feast at the Master’s table with one hand and slam the door in your face with the other:

You are different. Your practices are foreign to us… and come to think of it – just loving Christ is not enough… we rescind our invitation. We prefer to judge you and talk about you behind your back so that we can feel holier than thou. Because that is the kind of Christianity we practice. We believe that most people are going to hell but we’re still happy as long as we get to feel saved and special in the eyes of God.

Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Matthew 7:1-2

And they wonder why the church is not growing.

Jesus wept. John 11:35

Blessings,

  1. exact, the Church does not evolve. Or rather, it takes off all the false policy that has forfeited since the Middle Ages, when religious from istutizione has become an institution for the pursuit of power.

And to do this he schicciato their followers, confined them in dogma and rules and morality, which have nothing to do with Christ and his message.

Lies in the heads and hearts of the people get rid of this painting, and it is hoped that they start to do it soon.

    • Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. I have very little hope for the church, TBH. The narrow minds and cold hearts of the so-called followers of Christ is what made Gandhi make the following proclamation a few decades ago: “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” (still true!)

This post have me a lot to think about…I had not realized that use of tarot could be so condemned by the church.

  4. I have met Christians who are full of love and grace. Most often, they don’t attend an institutionalised church, though :( Sorry you had such a bad experience, Lisa.

Funny, I’d read that line very differently – Christ brought an answer, but it has been eaten away over time, and the happiness that was won was short-lived and has become tainted. Now, we are in need of a new start, a break from the old, otherwise we will sink even further into lack of clarity and polarised thinking. There is lots of potential still in Christ’s message, in his redemption, but we need to find a clear way to it again, through all the darkness and muddle that fixed thinking has brought.
